Mr. Filby, the spoiled cat, likes to eat more than he likes to drink. And when he DOES drink, he usually sits and hangs out at the kitchen faucet, waiting for me to open a slow trickle for him. He's irritating that way. But the Drinkwell unit, and the six-chambered carbon filters, have taken the burden off of me, allowing me to watch my soaps and my court TV shows in relative peace, without having to get up and turn the water on and off twenty times in an hour. The Drinkwell unit itself re-creates the running faucet sound that attracts Filby, and the filters keep his water fresher. They don't do much to filter hard water into soft water, though, so I would recommend using softened water only; otherwise, the lime and scale will build up fairly readily on the unit surface (I disassemble the unit occasionally, and soak it in a hot water/vinegar mixture to help disolve the deposits). It had to be "just so"...not too much, not too little...but they preferred drinking that water over their water in bowls, no matter how often the bowls were changed/cleaned. (Yes, I tried glass, ceramic, stainless steel, every... Read more

When I originally bought the cat fountain, I did not buy any extra filters with it. I just kept on rinsing out the old filter. I did this for so long that the filter totally stopped working. No water would flow through it at all. Finally, after way too long, I broke down and ordered these replacement filters. They look exactly like the original ones, and the price was great. One suggestion; however, before you use these filters, they ask that you rinse them out first. This will eliminate any fine carbon dust particles from entering the cat's water. › See all 43 customer reviews...
